I’ve been a mystery lover since the day I began reading Nancy Drew mysteries. By the tender age of 13, I was enamored with Agatha Christie’s Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot. At 16, my mom was so desperate to lighten me up that she presented me with a collection of humor stories. That sad little paperback went unread as I continued exploring my fascination with the dark side of human nature. Crime fiction provides the perfect outlet for this fascination. We all have shadow lives, the parts of ourselves that never see the light of day. However, some people do release their shadow selves into the world, don’t they?
When it comes to writing, or any goal, I’m a great believer in the three Ps: passion, patience, and perseverance. You can talk about talent, but the three Ps trump talent. You can talk about luck, but the three Ps help you make your luck.
I could add another “P” to the list–Pinot Noir–but this isn’t a blog about wine–although it’s been known to come up now and then.
